The cabbage soup diet

The cabbage soup diet has been around for many years now. It is a very popular diet to be used for the short term. This diet kick starts weight loss for people who are concerned about their weight or starting a new weight loss program.

The diet is designed to be used for 7 days and no longer than that. Once the diet is completed, the dieter should continue with a low calorie diet, which is also low in fats and carbohydrates. This diet combined with regular exercise will allow the person to keep the weight off that is lost during the first seven days, as well as continue to lose weight for the long term.

The premise of the diet is to use a recipe for Cabbage Soup which can be eaten in any amount desired over the seven day period along with different fruits and vegetables each day. The recipe for the Cabbage Soup can be found on many different sites on the internet. I am including the particular daily diet instructions below:

Day One: Eat as much soup as you want along with any and all fruits except for bananas. Drink a large amount of water or unsweetened tea.

Day Two: With your soup today you can eat all the vegetables, cooked or raw that you can consume, however try to refrain from eating peas, dried beans or corn. You may have one baked potato with butter for dinner. Do not eat fruit today.

Day Three: Combine the soup with vegetables and fruit today. Follow the guidelines on fruits and vegetables above, however do not eat a baked potato today.

Day Four: With your soup today, eat as many as 8 bananas and drink skim milk. You may have as much milk as you would like today.

Day Five: You may eat 3 portions of 6 ounces of beef today and up to 6 fresh tomatoes with your soup. You may substitute skinless chicken for one serving of beef today. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water.

Day Six: Today eat 3 servings of beef again and all the leafy vegetables that you can eat along with your soup. You may substitute one serving of broiled fish for one of the beef servings today. Do not eat potatoes today.

Day Seven: Today you will eat brown rice, any vegetables except potatoes and any unsweetened fruit juice you desire with your soup.

Please remember that you need to eat as much as you can of the items that are on the daily diet menu that are listed as unlimited. This helps prevent hunger and cravings for things that could sabotage your diet.
It is also very important to include 6 to 8 glasses of water each day along with the unsweetened tea. It is not recommended to use artificial sweeteners as they have been shown to increase a person’s appetite.

While on the seven day diet, in order to maintain the diet without undue hunger or cheating, there are a few tips that can help the dieter. Some things that can be done, if hunger occurs, immediately eat a bowl of soup or one of the allowed food items that day. It is better to eat as much as possible of the daily recommended items than to allow hunger to tempt a person into eating something they should not. Drinking a very cold glass of water will also help to stave off hunger for some time as well.

As stated, if this diet is used properly it can be a great kick start to a weight loss or weight management program. People have reported losing up to 10 pounds while on the seven day diet. However, if proper diet and exercise are not maintained after the diet is completed, weight can be quickly gained back.
