Staying faithful to the Atkins diet

Many people find it hard to believe that the Atkins Diet has actually been in existence in 1972. Because of its principle of drastically cutting an important component of a meal, it became controversial all over the world. The Atkins Diet advocates an almost complete elimination of carbohydrates from the diet, and replacing it with protein. It thrived in obscurity for about 20 years until it was re-introduced back in the 1990s. The public was intrigued, and many high-profile men and women have attested to its effectiveness. Thus, it remains popular today.

The diet works on the principle of elimination or at least a drastic reduction in carbohydrate consumption. This is built on the theory that the body primarily uses the sugars in carbohydrates first to provide it with energy. Thus, fat, which can also serve as the primary source of energy, does not get used, and thus gets accumulated. Following this logic, it is virtually impossible to lose weight with carbohydrates, according to the Atkins theory.

This diet is unique because it eliminates foods that have become a staple in many meals such as rice, breads, and other forms of grain. A complete elimination of carbohydrates will force the body to look for other sources of energy, a state called ketosis. Thus, according to the Atkins diet, once the body has established that fat is its primary source of energy, it will burn more fat, thus leading to weight loss.

For instance, many people order in restaurants foods that contain the very foods that they should stay away from, figuring that they will go back to the diet as soon as they get home. This almost always never happens, and, before you know it, you’re back to your old eating habits. The Atkins Diet requires that you tell the cook or server exactly what you want. That is, if the meal includes bread, rice, or pasta, ask the server to hold it or you can order something altogether.

Any diet plan requires a change of eating habits, and a change in attitude. This is much more evident in the Atkins Diet. If before, you were too shy or embarrassed to impress upon the cook or server exactly what you want, you may be forced to change so that you can stay on the diet. This way, you are not only making progress with your weight loss, you are also establishing a new identity, and you are making a significant improvement in stating your stand and never compromising your principles.

Some even involve recipes that you can use for cooking for the whole family or for friends.

Many people are still highly doubtful about the Atkins Diet, but these doubts are quickly disregarded once they have seen the results. Because it works on the principle of basic bodily processes, it can be applicable to all types of people with all body types. The first parts of the diet may be hard for many people, especially if they are used to having carbohydrates as a staple in their diets. But once the transition period is over, the whole diet becomes easier, and you can keep off that unwanted weight for the rest of your life.
