Meal replacement diets

Many people attempt to lose weight quickly through meal replacement diets. What this means is that a meal, or two meals per day are not “normal” meals. Instead, they are replaced with different types of shakes or diet bars. These are meant to supply needed vitamins and nutrients, while also being low in calories and taking the edge off of your appetite.

Some popular meal replacement products are made and marketed by Slim Fast. Their website shows you just how to use their products in replacing a meal, specifically breakfast.  The suggestions are having a chocolate or vanilla shake, the optima strawberry cheesecake meal bar, or the chocolate chip chewy granola meal bar rather than breakfast. This is one of the tastier meal replacement diets. A part of this eating plan includes combining these shakes and meal bars as snacks, and in conjunction with well balanced meals.

Nutrisystem and the Jenny Craig Diet are a different type of meal replacement diet. This is a program of specially prepared and packaged foods that you eat 6 times a day. You have meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with built in snacks 3 times a day. The variety of food is impressive, as well as tasty. Counseling and support are offered by email and telephone for both of these programs, with an in person option for Jenny Craig. You can actually order your food for the entire month online, and it will be delivered right to your door. The eating plan comes with a maintenance plan to help you keep the weight off once you have reached your goal, and are ready to go off of the program’s food. The biggest problem with these is the price. They are pretty expensive meal replacement diets, but price may be something that most people are willing to ignore if something really works.

Another popular diet of this sort is Medifast. This program also offers prepackaged foods for sale and can be purchased online through the Medifast website. This program was always believed to be all liquid. That is no longer the case. There are over 70 food choices, including stews, oatmeal, chili, crackers, chips and eggs. This is in addition to the shakes, puddings and food bars it has always offered.  Medifast is one of the meal replacement diets that has been endorsed by many physicians through the years, as well as being one of the more affordable ones. This program also has extra vitamins, nutrients and metabolism boosters available to help the weight loss really kick in.

Many people formulate their own meal replacement plan by mixing and drinking fruit or vegetable smoothies. These are made from many different ingredients that can also have powdered vitamins or minerals added to the mixture as they are being blended. When using these types of meal replacement diets, it’s wise to include at least one well balanced meal per day. Usually this meal will be dinner, while using the smoothies for breakfast, lunch, or both. They can also be incorporated as snacks.

While most of these diet plans do work for a lot of people, unless you are also formulating a maintenance plan, all of your hard work will be for nothing eventually. You can lose weight rather quickly following a strict regimen of this type, but the problem comes after you have begun to eat normally again. Weight lost by using meal replacement diets generally comes back pretty quickly. This is why you need to make sure you are eating sensibly once you have dropped that excess weight. One way to do this is by learning new and improved eating habits while you are dieting. This can make all the difference in keeping off that weight.
