Lemon detox diet
The lemon detox diet is designed to detoxify and cleanse the body of all the toxins and plaque that build up due to what we breathe and ingest on a daily basis. A person can also lose weight using this program. This program gained a lot of popularity after Beyonce talked about using it for a two week period of time. She stated that she had lost 20 pounds during that time but was “very close to dying” while she was losing that 20 pounds.
The lemon detox diet consists of drinking a drink that consists of lemon juice, maple syrup, water, and cayenne pepper. You are to drink as much of it as you can hold all day long. You are not to eat or drink anything else during the period of time you are using this diet. The ingredients in the drink are designed to help you lose water weight and to help you to remove waste products through the kidneys. The cayenne pepper helps to remove toxins through the blood stream and the kidneys as well.
The recipe for the drink is listed below:
- 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon. Do not use concentrate or a drink mix, as these contain preservatives.
- 2 tablespoons of organic or maple syrup. Again, no maple flavored syrups, they have toxins which you are trying to rid your body of.
- 1/10th of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper, more or less to taste.
Prepare enough of the drink to have to last you through the day. Since you are not allowed any type of food or drink other than this, it would be wise to take any foods or tempting things out of the pantry or refrigerator so that you are not tempted to cheat while you are detoxing.
Expect to spend a lot of time in the bathroom while you are doing this cleanse. You will be removing toxins through your kidneys and that will make you go to the bathroom more than usual so please plan for this. There is nothing more embarrassing than being caught somewhere you are not prepared for.
Once you have been on the cleansing or detox portion of the program for ten days you will start easing yourself back into eating regular food a little at a time. You will start drinking fruit juices one to two times a day for the first couple of days, then eat raw fruits and vegetables or salads for a few days, then cooked vegetables or vegetable soups for the remainder of the diet. The main thing here is to try to avoid meats or severely limit them. You are to avoid all dairy products as well while on this diet program.
Some of the side effects to watch out for while on this program can include headaches for the first four days on the program which can be severe due to caffeine withdrawal. Anyone who drinks moderate amounts of caffeine in either coffee, tea or carbonated drinks should taper off those drinks before doing this type of detox to avoid the headaches after starting on the detox program. Some of the other side effects that have been reported are physical aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and hot bowel movements due to the toxins being swiftly removed from the body. Some people did report some cravings and being weak, shaky and very tired and sleepy for a few days as well. Drinking extra fluids will help if you do notice these symptoms.
