How to prevent obesity
Obesity has become a huge problem in the United States. The rise in the number of overweight people in America has made its way to alarming levels. If you are overweight, there are a few things you can do to make sure you are doing your best to fight the odds of obesity. Since obesity can lead to many unwanted health problems it is highly important to get your weight under control.
There are many causes of weight gain. Most of us, as much as we hate to admit, gain weight due to lack of self control. We stop at the local fast food chain for lunch, grab a quick latte or eat portions of food that are way beyond our means. Convenience has become our number one luxury and we take full advantage of it more often than not. The amount of fat and calories we consume on a daily basis exceeds are required amount by far. We have succumb to the advertisements that tease our taste buds and convince us that these foods are a must have. The restaurants have increased their portion sizes to include super sized fries and sodas. Because we see it for only a dollar more we feel we are getting a good deal. Really you are consuming an entire days worth of calories in just one meal! Not to mention the amount of saturated fats, sodium and sugars that we are digesting. It’s a nightmare for our bodies.
In order to start losing weight you must understand that you have to change your eating habits first and foremost. Eating healthy is the key to weight loss. You need to consume plenty of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean proteins. Let go of the fatty meats and start substituting some of them for healthier soy foods and beans. This can make a huge difference in you losing weight. Stop drinking sodas and juices full of sugar. Instead, opt for drinking plenty of water. If you are not a fan of water, try adding some flavor to fulfill you cravings. They sell all sorts of water additives and even adding a squeeze of lemon or lime can be quite refreshing. Make sure you eat a healthy breakfast. Eating breakfast gets your metabolism going early in the day. Try eating 5 smaller portions during the day instead of 1-2 larger meals. When you starve your body all day, then eat a large dinner, your metabolism goes crazy. It will slow down and start holding on to calories and fat in order to prevent starvation. Eating the proper nutrition will also help you feel better and give your body the vitamins and minerals it needs to function at its best. You will gain increased energy and you will avoid the sluggish and bloated feelings you have after indulging in an unhealthy meal.
Secondly, you must get some exercise. A lot of people loathe the word exercise, but it’s crucial to staying healthy and slim. Without physical activity, your metabolism will become stagnant and never get the boost it needs to burn calories. Hearing the word exercise does not mean you need to run out and get the nearest gym membership. Just incorporate 30 minutes of aerobic activity a day to start with. Take your dog on a long walk around your neighborhood, go on a bike ride with the family or join a sport that you may enjoy. You can eventually add more time and intensity to your work outs, but the important thing is to get moving today!
These are important rules for anyone to live by, whether overweight or otherwise. By eating right and exercising, you will improve your overall health and lose weight at the same time. Make some simple changes to ensure that you are doing your part to live a happy, healthy lifestyle.
