Foods that curb hunger

As if exercise isn’t hard enough, when you decide to lose weight people recommend that you go on a diet too. It is hard enough to satisfy and keep cravings at bay when you aren’t working out, but when you start burning extra calories in the gym your body will start to beg and plead for you to indulge. This is when it gets really tough trying to lose weight and where you have to stay strong. Fortunately, you don’t have to do it alone and there are actually several different foods that you can eat that will not only provide you with great nutrition, but also help you to curb hunger and prevent overeating and binge eating.

One of the first tricks that you can use to start feeling full faster and to help curb your appetite, is to drink a glass or two of water before you eat your meal. Many times, when we think we are hungry we are actually just thirsty and drinking water can not only fix that, but also help you get more full faster. I try to drink several glasses of water per day, but if you do it right before a meal you will find that you can walk away having eaten less.

Many vegetables and foods high in fiber are great for curbing appetite because they are basically fillers that add substance to your meals without adding too many extra calories. In this case, having a large salad or broth based soup before your meal can help you slowly fill your stomach before a large meal. Also, lean proteins such as fish and chicken can not only fill you up, but help you withhold the fat calories that come from other meat sources. The trick is to find foods that are filling, but that also are healthy and low calorie so that you can use them to replace more unhealthy foods. This is why high protein diets work so well, because you are filling up on healthy ingredients that are generally low in calories and forcing your body to burn fat for energy.

Fruits, such as apples and pomegranate are great because they also have fewer calories than many cooked foods and contain generous amounts of vitamins and fiber, which combined help you stay full much longer. Fiber works as a sponge to absorb and spread out in your stomach and digestive system and any diet high in fiber will do great things to help you curb your appetite. Bran cereals, dark leafy greens, and fruit smoothies are also excellent ways to keep you full for longer periods of time.

Overall, if you really want to lose weight then a healthy diet and plenty of exercise are the best ways to do that. When it comes to eating healthy, the best foods to eat are the ones that fill you up with nutrition while staying low on the calorie count. If you learn how to make healthy choices at the grocery, you will not have to worry about making poor decisions at home. If you fill your refrigerator and cabinets up with healthy fruits and vegetables, lean meats and proteins, and salads, then you will have no choice but to eat healthy foods. Drink plenty of water, especially before a meal, to make sure that the hunger pains you feel are not related to being thirsty. Following this method, I was able to save several hundred calories per day. If you start drinking water, eating healthy, and keeping your appetite at a minimum, you are bound to lose weight eventually. Remember that staying thin and healthy is a matter of lifestyle more than anything.
