Fat Blockers

After the boom of Alli and other prescription medication, fat blockers have become a rave in the weight loss world.  Fat blockers differ from fat burners in that they affect the gastrointestinal tract and digestion rather than the brain.  Alli is currently the most well-known fat blocker that is FDA-approved.  This over the counter supplement is meant to prevent fat cell absorption in the bloodstream.

Though it’s unrealistic to expect fat blockers to stop every fat cell in the body, it can help cut up to a third of the fat intake.  This gives your body a huge advantage in clearing fat cells stored in your body.  By fighting fewer fat cells, your body can concentrate on burning more fat cells, which means fewer stored fat cells and less weight gain.

Chitosan, the first all-natural extract of shellfish exoskeleton, is one of the major components of fat blockers.  Chitosan is a fiber substitute that prevents fat cells from absorbing in the GI tract.

Keep in mind that fat blockers containing Chitosan need to be taken before or right after meals.  Because of the high fiber content, the body doesn’t digest Chitosan.  Rather, Chitosan attracts fat cells and passes everything through your system.
