What Is Alli?

Alli is the industry’s first and currently it’s only FDA approved over the counter weight loss pill.  They claim that they can help you to change your lifestyle, and some would translate that into they will keep you honest.  Alli is sold through many major third party retailers, and they continue to claim you could lose something like 50% more weight with regular use and diet and exercise.

The interesting thing is they talk about how it’s not for everybody.  It’s only for those who are seriously dedicated, which you would think would turn away most.  But then they talk about how because it’s FDA approved, it’s automatically safe and you can trust it to be effective.

So What Does FDA Approval Really Mean?

Basically nothing.  FDA approval means that you will probably suffer serious side effects due to other FDA approved prescriptions like Phentermine.  That’s why they control it.  That’s why they went through the steps to get approval, because it would never be approved for the over the counter market due to hazards and risks.  And as far as results, well some FDA approved weight loss drugs haven’t been clinically proven to promote weight loss ironically enough.

So Why Would We Say All Of This?

Because it’s true.  Since we’re already talking about Alli, let’s really talk about it.  Yes, they conducted one clinical study that ran over the space of a year.  They used the amounts used in prescription Xenical, which is actually double that used in Alli.  At the end of that year, users had lost anywhere from 5-10% of their body weight.  If you watch biggest loser, they tend to lose around 5% of their body weight in a couple weeks at most, because you lose weight faster when obese.  Why did it take them a year?  And afterward, most study subjects gained the weight back.

Alli Side Effects

But basically speaking, it works by blocking a certain amount of your fat intake.  It doesn’t cause severe depression or anything severe like that as you would experience with Phentermine for example.  But that’s not to downplay the side effects of Alli.  I mean who really enjoys randomly defecating in their pants in front of their friends, family, coworkers, in important meetings, etc.  Who really enjoys wearing an adult diaper?

Conclusion

As far as their diet goes, they expect you to cut out all fats, not just most fats, all fats.  This includes good fats, which would explain why people are actually losing only that little weight.  You need good fats to lose weight, and without them, eventually it just stops.  If you eat any fat with Alli, you will be punished and kept “honest.”  There has also been some speculation that it may cause liver damage.

Many times, when people use Alli, they cannot properly absorb certain nutrients, especially vital and essential fat soluble vitamins.  People actually lose less weight than they would have with diet and exercise alone, and frankly it’s clinically proven not to really promote weight loss.  So we’re not all that hopeful about Alli.
