Adderall weight loss
The medication known as Adderall has been on the market since the 1960′s. When it first came out it was marketed as a diet pill. However, the medication has since then been used more as a prescription for those suffering from ADHD. ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This medication is prescribed for those that have a hard time focusing on a task and are a bit hyper and unable to concentrate. Also known as amphetamine-dextroamphetamine, this medication has shown great results in re-establishing the chemical balance in the brain that is needed for better concentration and focus. It has helped a lot of people get back on tract and defeat the symptoms of their ADHD.
When this drug is used appropriately for a reasonable amount of time, the side effects can be minimal. However, when put into the wrong hands and taken without a proper prescription, a person may suffer from some potentially dangerous side effects. The reason that people have turned to taking Adderall and misusing the product is because one of the side effects to taking the medication is lack of appetite and weight loss. This is how Adderall became such a popular choice for people trying to lose weight without actually having ADHD. Although this medication can be prescribed for weight loss, it is extremely important to get a doctor’s approval and prescription. Taking Adderall can interfere with other parts of your life if you do not have an Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Those who take Adderall for weight loss may find that they need to constantly up the dosage in order to achieve the same appetite suppressing results. Once the dosage of this medication becomes too high it can start causing psychological and physical dependency. The medication Adderall comes in a time-released formula so that the medication can be taken daily and the effects are spread over the course of several hours. Some of those that misuse the medication crush the pill or snort the medication in order to achieve the effects at a quicker rate. This is extremely dangerous.
For those that suffer from obesity and ADHD, Adderall may be a great prescription drug. Yes it can take care of both problems at the same time. However, those that are already thin and suffering from ADHD may not be prescribed Adderall due to its weight loss side effects. Children who are not overweight and adults who are already considered low body weight will probably be prescribed another form of ADHD medication. There are a few circumstances in which a doctor may prescribe a low dose of Adderall for an overweight patient to jump start weight loss but it is never intended for long term use in order to keep weight off. If you do not have ADHD and you are overweight, discuss with your doctor a medication that may be good for you. There are other appetite suppressing drugs that may benefit you better than Adderall. Other weight loss medications may work better for you without interfering with your mental status. If you do not suffer from ADHD then you are not doing yourself any favors by taking Adderall.
Adderall is considered a stimulant and all stimulants can have both short term and long term effects on the body. Some of the short term side effects that are common with taking Adderall include migraines, acne insomnia, dry mouth, excessive thirst, increased aggression, sweating, lack of sex drive, impotence, addiction, and nervousness. Long term side effects may be more serious and should be discussed with your doctor before committing to taking the medication.
